So I took Grant to the doctors for his 4 month well baby check-up and shots last Friday. Because Melanie can't stand the look of betrayal in the eyes of a newborn getting stabbed with a needle and likewise can't stomach the sound of a dentist drill, I was appointed early on our marriage to be the taker of children to the drills and needles appointments.
I'll spare you the tears part, but the upshot is that our little 4 month old is now 14 pounds and 26 inches long. That's 30 percentile for weight and 70 for height. If you recall, the scrawny little guy was born five weeks early at 6 lbs. 6 ounces/19 inches long. Needless to say, this is no longer the little baby we brought home from the hospital.
He now smiles all the time. He turns his head when he hears mommy or daddy's voice, and he howls when his big brother James is tickling or making faces at him. James is a wonderful big brother. He's always willing to feed him when the two of us are busy. He's also quick to find some way to pacify the baby when he's upset.
Jamesie tested for his Yellow Belt in karate last Saturday and passed. After two belts, though, Jamesie has decided to hang up his gi for a while. He's decided to take up swimming next. Well, he already knows how to swim, but he still lacks confidence in the deep end and in the ocean. And if he's going to join me surfing this summer, he'll definitely have to feel more confident in the ocean.
Melanie has written three chapters of her novel so far, and I got an exclusive sneak preview into Chapter 4 tonight. I'll let her tell you more about it if she chooses, but I find myself waiting anxiously for the next installment. Even though she's already revealed the end to me, the beauty is in the journey with this story.
Me? I'm still working as a contractor at Allergan. I'm working on a Find a Doctor piece right now...actually, there are a lot of us working on it. I'm just doing one small part, but it's definitely time consuming. My other project is modifying a Training Course registration system to act as a Flight reservation system for the company jet. I'm told that there are plenty of projects to keep me busy through to the end of the year. So that's nice. Allergan is a great company to work for. And I'm hoping (along with the rest at Allergan) that Botox, dermal fillers, implants, and eye products are recession-proof products.
Well, that should keep everyone up-to-date for now.
