We had a lovely, lazy Sunday, all curled up with each other on the sofa and watching the BBC Planet Earth DVDs which are just gorgeous. Monday stayed low-key, too. James worked on his mission report in the morning and then we headed out to Disneyland in the afternoon while Joan watched Grant for us. It was clear and cool when we got there but had rained most of the day, so the park was pretty empty and James and I didn't have to wait for anything. We rode all the roller coasters and enjoyed treats like hot cocoa and cinnamon twists from the bakery. When we got home, he hung out with Kenny and I went to watch The Bachelor with several girls from the ward.
Tuesday was hurry-up-and-finish-your-mission-report day. Kenny and James worked on that in the evening while I went to a baby shower for Amber Baltzer and then to Target to hunt down a report cover and some glue for James's project. Then it was all about adventure in bean dyeing, trying to turn a bowl full of black-eyed peas blue per the project requirements. They're making a bean mosaic. I kind of hate beans now more than I did before. Sigh. But all in all, the project was completed and turned in on time without weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Friday, Kenny and I had a date night where we went to The Melting Pot, a fondue place in Irvine, with Doug and Kastell Larsen. We had a great time trying to figure out the logistics and goofing off. We cvame home and hung out with Jamie and Nadine who had babysat for us. We chose to celebrate Valentine's Day on friday since Saturday was stake conference and Kenny would be in meetings most of the night. I surprised him in the mornin gwith the fist season of Psych on DVD and a digital photography book taht a friend recommneded. Then when he got home I surprised him with chocolate covered cinnamon gummy bears and a card. But he really surprised me with a Wii Fit and some beautiful red gerbera daisies. He knows I'm not a rose kind of girl. After Jamie and Nadine left, we gave the Wii Fit a try and got a kick out of it. Great present, honey!
Saturday, we hung out all morning and watched James monopolize Wii Fit, then Kenny took the boys to meet Skip at a classic car show and I took off for a writing workshop. I got back just in time for Kenny to make it to the priesthood session of stake conference, but since we didn't have a sitter, we didn't attend the evening session and just had fun being around each other, watching a movie and hanging out.
I've been coming down with a cold since Wednesday so this morning, rather than fight with Grant at church for two hours, Kenny and James went to conference and I stayed in my bathrobe all day, reading The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio for book club and trying to figure out what Grant's grunts and remedial signs meant. Kenny came home and eventually took the boys for a walk to practice some of the tricks he learned in his new book and then we spent time as a family with Planet Earth again. We were going to Skip and Joan's for dinner to celebrate Joan's birthday but Joan wasn't feeling well so we enjoyed our pot roast in lazy comfort here instead.
Grant has learned more signs, like differentiating between food and milk when he wants something. But no walking yet! Just a few steps and then he sits down. Soon. But I've been saying that for two weeks, so we'll see!
