Once again, this post is dominated by baby Grant. Want to know why? Because baby Grant dominates everything. He is crawling into, climbing up, and generally pulling apart everything he can get his sticky hands on. Then, when whatever his new target is destroyed in crumbs, ashes, or shreds around him, he grins and claps. Because that’s his new trick: clapping. You say, “Yay!” and he claps.

Mostly it’s so darn cute that we just don’t get mad. Mostly. It’s not so funny when our laptops end up on the floor.

And I can’t even remember what happened in the week I skipped. It’s another one that will go missing in our lives. I have a vague recollection of chaperoning a Cub Scout field trip to the library that was kind of a nightmare just because they all wanted to run all over the place. And I know on Saturday we drove up and down PCH, honking and waving to show our support of the Yes on Prop 8 sign holders and of Yes on Prop 8. It keeps marriage between a man and a woman per a state constitutional amendment. And for date night we went to Nordstrom and I got a massage (yay!) and Kenny got his Hugo Boss suit and some slacks tailored and his John Nordstrom shirt made to order. And then we watched some forgettable movie on pay-per-view (Vantage Point, maybe?) and it was quite relaxing.

This past week was a little more adventurous because of Halloween, but more on that later.

James is still plowing through his schoolwork like a madman, not loving division but forging ahead with the belief that it can be done. He continues to get good grades on his spelling quizzes and show improvement in his printing. We tackle cursive next! Swim lesson continue for a couple of weeks and then we’ll dial it back to just rock climbing until after the holidays. He has rediscovered a love for his PSP this week and builds virtual roller coasters ad nauseum (pun intended). He also raced in the Cub Scout space derby and after some frustrating technical difficulties in the beginning, he ended up having the most spectacular run of the night where his rocket went so far so fast that it sailed off past the end of the track and he was pretty stoked about that. Oh, and last Sunday he delivered his two parts for the Sacrament meeting primary program perfectly, memorized and everything, with no mistakes. Although he still refuses to sing under any circumstance.

Grant is teething again, but this time his other front tooth made an actual appearance. And he’s getting naughty in church, trying to crawl every where and making happy shrieking noises at inopportune times. But he stays pretty much a happy baby and entertains us constantly with his good humor and constant delight with himself every time he’s able to clap, give a high five, or do something that earns himself a “Yay!” He’s a “yay” junkie.

I’m still writing, finally making measurable progress on my new manuscript. I’m still waiting to hear final word on where my first one is officially being published. I blog on my personal blog regularly and I’m finally building a measurable following which is fun and rewarding. I’ve been doing well with my weight loss, too. I’m a pound away from my goal weight and only five pounds from my dream weight, so that feels really good. I keep busy organizing our ward book club and taking a weekly tennis class which finishes tomorrow night. It was fun learning something new. I also trade meals with two other girls in my ward and we all cook low fat and healthy. I totally look forward to the nights I’m going to have a meal delivered to my door. It makes life much easier! And they’re both good cooks, which makes me happy. I volunteer in James’s classroom on Wednesdays and hit the gym four days a week and then I have moments where I sit around and wonder where the time has gone. Duh.

Kenny is still working from home two days a week, which he loves. It looks like Allergan will need him for a good while yet, so that’s nice. His current real estate obsession is stalking homes for sale in Vista and Oceanside in San Diego county. He is thin and healthy and lost enough weight to reward himself with a brand new Google phone, which he has been playing with for two hours straight, since he just got it today. (Came home early to play with it, might I add).

Other than that, highlights for the week included:

Friday: Halloween, with pictures to come.

Saturday: date night with a matinee showing of the thriller Eagle Eye with Shia LaBoeuf (pretty good), followed by my first experience with pho (Vietnamese noodle soup, not bad), and frozen yogurt from our favorite joint.

Sunday: a surprise birthday party for Emily Curfew at the Schumanns house, which was fun.

Check back in a day or two if you want the photographic evidence!
