So this was the first full week with Jamesie gone. Although he’s having a wonderful time in San Francisco and will have lots of adventures this summer, we miss him! Even with the house full of Grant’s giggles and happy shrieks, it’s still a little too quiet. However, we call him every other day and Kenny and I compete to see who gets to actually make the call and talk to James first. I’m sure James wishes we would just put him on speaker so he wouldn’t have to answer the same set of questions twice, but we each like to have our own time with him so he’s (barely) patient and answers everything we ask. However, he talks more the first time he answers which is why we both like talking to him first. :)

We sent him off last Saturday and then dropped Grant with my sister-in-law Jill who was nice enough to agree to watch him overnight so Kenny and I could have a quiet out of town trip in San Diego. When we finally got down there after a series of semi-disastrous events (toilet overflow on the way out of the door, world’s loudest bed when we checked into the hotel), we eventually got settled in for an evening out in the big S.D. The hotel we eventually switched to is right near Balboa Park. We went there that night for a production of Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor at the Old Globe Theater. Kenny and I love Shakespeare plays. That’s what we did for our first date and this was the second anniversary of our first date. We weren’t very familiar with this play but it was a comedy and we had fun watching it.

Of course, the highlights of all our trips usually involve food and this was no different. We had dinner at this place called Hash House A Go Go which has super awesome comfort food. It’s a nice place and the service was great, but the food….oh, man! Did I mention super awesome?

After the play we went to Extraordinary Desserts which does nothing but: desserts. (Good Guess.) I had white hot chocolate infused with Madagascar vanilla bean, lemongrass, and lavender. No kidding. That’s what’s in an $8 cup of hot chocolate. And then I had some kind of really tasty hazelnut torte.

The next morning we found a little French café and had crepes and quiche and then wandered through the art museum in Balboa Park and saw the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit.

The rest of the week passed quietly. Monday morning we took advantage of no school and slept in a little. Until 8:00. We just aren’t good at sleeping in any more. I played with Grant a lot and wrote well over my daily word goal. And I blogged on my Write Stuff blog. I’m meeting lots of other LDS writers and big-time readers in the blogosphere. The only other really exciting thing we did was go see the new Indiana Jones movie on Tuesday night. We brought Grant with us and that’s what made it such an adventure. He normally sleeps at that time of night but it was too loud in the movie and it kept startling him awake. He was super squirmy but not too loud until the last ten minutes and Kenny just went and stood to the side with him and watched the movie where Grant’s little squeals couldn’t distract everyone.

Our other evenings were spent trying new recipes (nothing we’d just HAVE to make again but there was some good stuff) and watching Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica on DVD. We’re addicted to that show. Oh, and So You Think You Can Dance, of course.

Saturday Kenny came to South Coast Plaza and went shopping with me, which was really fun. It’s actually not that hard to shop with Grant yet but it sure was fun to have another adult for company!
